The Ideas Foyer

By Stephen Tucker
Back when my wife and I were still dating, there was one occasion when I was apart from her in another country. Needless to say we missed each other plenty and talked over the phone every day. For all you currently in situations like this, soon to be in situations like this, or just for those of you who feel it may happen sometime in future, I would recommend you read on. During my time there I had a good idea which certainly made my trip more memorable and hopefully may do the same for you.
Whilst you are apart you are missing each other, right? Why not show her how you missed her? This is how it works. During every day of your excursion keep your eyes open. Try and train your mind to take note of things that remind you of your partner and when you do, if it is possible (and preferably small – book sized) take it. If it is a flower then press it. If it’s a yellow napkin that reminds you of the time (s)he threw up all over you in that restaurant, just take one.
Now here’s the creative part. When you return to the airport for departure, look around in some of the many gift shops that are bound to be there for a binder or scrap book of some kind, along with some glue and a pen. Then, when you are on the plane during the long journey home, place everything you have collected into the book leaving a space below on each page. Now in the space write the date you collected it, or if you cannot remember just make up the dates – (s)he’ll never know, and write a small paragraph on why the item reminded you of him/her, not forgetting to stress throughout the book the point that you missed him/her.
When you get home, present it! It costs virtually nothing and is the perfect gift that will provide the perfect memory for you both, guaranteed.
